What I've been up to lately...

Last year, I joined an all-filipino choir based here in the Land of Lah. Since then, listening to MIDI guides and studying music pieces has been a part of my daily routine. Twice a week we have sectionals and group rehearsal during Saturday night. The choir has been a part of my lifestyle, and I'm very thankful for that because I found new friends and most of all, a family.

This month, we will be celebrating our 1st anniversary on the 14th, Valentines Day. A thanksgiving concert will be held on the 3rd Sunday of March, although we were yet to be informed of the exact time and venue for this event. Also, we're preparing for our "dream performance" at the "Big Durian" and that's about three months from now.

We had a short but very intensive workshop last week headed by a choirmaster we invited from Manila. She's an alumna of the world renowned Philippine Madrigal Singers. For four days, we were trained about vocal technique, dynamics and the proper way of studying music pieces. The training was very hard, even I was on the verge of giving up but gladly each one of us made it through the end.

As I listened to our sample recordings during the workshop, I really can't believe that we were able to produce such good sound. We may not be as good as compared to most of the award winning choirs in the Philippines, but considering the fact that all of us members are working professionals with varying job schedules and lifestyle, still we were able to gather in one place to share the same passion for music.

Here's an audio clip from our choir rehearsals as we sang a choral setting of a Roger Whittaker original that was covered by Gary Morris, and later on by Bette Middler. Happy listening! :)
